Kroger Extends Fuel Savings to Dec. 31

CINCINNATI — The Kroger Co. announced that customers will be able to earn and redeem their fuel points to save up to $2.00 off per gallon at Kroger Co. fuel centers through December 31, an extension of its summer savings program.

The announcement comes on the heels of Wal-Mart Stores' statement that it will soon cut gasoline prices for the rest of the year by up to 15 cents per gallon for drivers in 20 U.S. states who pay with its cards, according to a Reuters report. Shoppers paying with a Walmart MoneyCard or Walmart credit card will save 15 cents per gallon from Aug. 31 through Dec. 24, while those who use a Walmart gift card will get 10 cents off.

Kroger's promotion doubles the maximum points redeemable for a discount, allowing customers to continue to earn and redeem up to 2,000 fuel points through regular purchases and special offers.

"At our customers' request we are pleased to extend our special offer doubling potential fuel savings up to $2.00 per gallon through the busy fall and holiday shopping seasons," said Michael J. Donnelly, Kroger's senior vice president of merchandising, in a statement.

Points can be earned and redeemed at most but not all Kroger Co. locations, and restrictions vary by local market. For example, accumulation of fuel points for savings above 10 cents per gallon is not available at Kroger fuel centers in Alabama, Louisiana and Missouri due to regulatory restrictions; accumulation is also not available at Fred Meyer and QFC stores in Oregon and Washington State and Ralphs stores in California.
