Tops Friendly Markets has kicked off its Tops Christmas Bonus program, which enables customers to earn a discount on gift cards with grocery purchases.

Under the program, shoppers who use their Tops BonusPlus loyalty card automatically earn one gift point for every grocery purchase of at least $50. They then can use one gift point at checkout to buy a $50 gift card to participating stores and restaurants for $40, a 20% savings.

Gift cards for more than two dozen retailers are eligible for the Christmas Bonus program, which was expanded this year to include more merchants, according to Tops. New for 2018 are Barnes & Noble, Best Buy, Macy’s, Lord & Taylor and AMC Theaters.

Other participants include Lowe’s, Old Navy, Bed Bath & Beyond, Applebee’s, GameStop, Regal Cinemas, American Eagle, Gap, Banana Republic, Michael’s, Build A Bear Workshop, Express, Bass Pro Shops, Spa Finder, Buffalo Wild Wings, Red Robin, Ruby Tuesday, Outback Steakhouse and IHOP.

“Tops Christmas Bonus was created as a thank you and to help our shoppers stretch their budget while spreading holiday cheer,” said Diane Colgan, senior vice president of marketing at Tops. “Whether you are planning on Black Friday or Cyber Monday shopping for gifts, or a do-it-yourself project at home, taking advantage of Tops Christmas Bonus can save you both time and money."

Gift points can be redeemed at any Tops store, and the retailer noted that there’s no limit to the number of gift cards that can be purchased under the program, which runs to Dec. 22.

Williamsville, N.Y.-based Tops operates 159 supermarkets in New York, northern Pennsylvania and Vermont. It also has five franchisees under the Tops banner.
