The summer grocery price wars are in full swing, with another major retailer lowering prices.

Target has reduced prices on roughly 1,500 products and plans to cut costs on thousands more throughout the summer, the mass retailer announced on Monday.

Initial price cuts are on products like diapers, paper towels, and pet food, as well as food items such as milk, meat, bread, soda, fruit and vegetables, snacks, yogurt, peanut butter, coffee, and more.

The announcement comes a few weeks after German discount grocer Aldi cut prices on more than 250 items. Meanwhile, Walmart is bringing its own discount game to the table with the launch of its private-label brand, Bettergoods, in late April.

"We know consumers are feeling pressured to make the most of their budget, and Target is here to help them save more," said Rick Gomez, Target’s executive vice president and chief officer of food, essentials, and beauty.

Target said its private-label brands, Everspring and Good & Gather, will have their own deals over the summer, which will be discoverable at their brick-and-mortar locations with red tags.

The deals include:

  • Good & Gather Unsalted Butter (1 lb) now $3.79 (was $3.99)

  • Good & Gather Organic Baby Spinach (5 oz) now $2.99 (was $3.29)
