Amazon Prime Now reaches more Whole Foods stores

Online grocery delivery, pickup launches in new markets

Same-day online grocery delivery through Amazon’s Prime Now service has become available at Whole Foods Market stores in another 10 cities.

The companies said Wednesday that Prime Now delivery via Whole Foods has launched in Albuquerque, N.M.; Birmingham, Ala.; Boise, Idaho; Charleston, S.C.; Colorado Springs, Colo.; Hartford and Stamford, Conn.; Kansas City, Mo.; Providence, R.I.; and Salt Lake City. The service also has been rolled out to more neighborhoods in Boston and Cincinnati.

Accompanying the home delivery expansion was the kickoff of Prime Now grocery pickup at Whole Foods locations in six new cities, including Boise, Las Vegas and San Diego plus Jacksonville, Tampa and West Palm Beach, Fla.

Prime Now delivery is now available in 63 cities. The service, launched in February, most recently was expanded to Annapolis, Md.; Cleveland; Louisville, Ky.; north and central New Jersey; Pittsburgh; and additional locations in the San Francisco Bay area earlier this month.

Curbside pickup, introduced in early August in Sacramento, Calif., and Virginia Beach, Va., is now offered in 14 markets, including late September launches in Fort Worth, Texas; Kennesaw, Ga.; and Richmond, Va.

“Prime Now delivery continues to be a hit with our customers, and we’re excited to introduce the service in 10 new cities,” Christina Minardi, executive vice president of operations at Austin, Texas-based Whole Foods, said in a statement. “And for our customers in Boise, Jacksonville, Las Vegas, San Diego, Tampa and West Palm Beach, we’re thrilled to also offer the option of grocery pickup. It’s just another way we’re making it even easier for more customers to enjoy Whole Foods Market’s healthy and organic food.”

For online grocery delivery and pickup, Amazon Prime members can shop thousands of items at Whole Foods in such categories as fresh and organic produce, bakery, dairy, meat and seafood, floral and daily household essentials. Customers in Cincinnati, Jacksonville, San Diego, Tampa and West Palm Beach also can purchase select alcohol products online, the retailers said.

Delivery service is available until 10 p.m., while pickup is offered from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Orders are delivered in as soon as an hour and can be picked up at a Whole Foods store in 30 minutes. With pickup, Prime Now personal shoppers load groceries into customers’ vehicles.
