Save Mart launches online grocery delivery across banners

Instacart same-day service now available at nearly all stores

Following a successful pilot at one of its retail banners, The Save Mart Cos. has kicked off same-day grocery delivery through Instacart at nearly all of its supermarkets.

Instacart service began Wednesday at all Save Mart and FoodMaxx stores in California and northern Nevada, representing 133 locations. In early May, Modesto, Calif.-based Save Mart Cos. introduced Instacart delivery at 21 Lucky and Lucky California stores in the San Francisco Bay area. This week’s broader launch brings the service to the rest of Lucky’s stores.

Overall, The Save Mart Cos. operates 207 traditional supermarkets and price-impact grocery stores in California (198 locations) and Nevada (nine locations) under the Save Mart (79), Lucky/Lucky California (69), FoodMaxx (54), S-Mart Foods (four) and MaxxValue Foods (one) banners.

“We are excited to expand our Instacart online shopping and home delivery services throughout the operating area of our Save Mart, FoodMaxx, Lucky and Lucky California stores,” Save Mart Cos. Chief Marketing Officer Barbara Walker said in a statement. “Instacart’s service allows us an easy point of access to offer online the great values found in our stores, including high-quality, locally grown produce, ready-to-eat meal solutions, meat and seafood.”

Besides packaged groceries and fresh foods, customers can order household essentials and beer, wine and spirits online through the Instacart marketplace or mobile app. Save Mart noted that shoppers will find the same prices as in stores.

Customers can select a delivery window of one hour or up to five days, and their orders are picked, packed and delivered by an Instacart personal shopper. For orders of $35 or more, the delivery fee is $3.99, and those signing up for an Instacart Express membership ($9.99 per month or an annual $99 fee) get unlimited free delivery on all orders over $35. New Instacart users who shop Save Mart and FoodMaxx can get $20 off their first order of $35 or more by entering the respective codes SAVEMART20 or 20OFFFOODMAXX at checkout.

“We’re proud to partner with The Save Mart Cos. to bring shoppers across each of their banner stores in California and northern Nevada a new way to have their groceries and everyday essentials delivered to their door in as fast as an hour,” said Andrew Nodes, vice president of retail at San Francisco-based Instacart. “Save Mart, Lucky, Lucky California and FoodMaxx are all grocery staples for California and Nevada residents. We’re excited to make grocery shopping easier for busy people and families that have been shopping at these stores for generations.”

Along with Instacart delivery, The Save Mart Cos. offers its own online grocery pickup service, called ClickCart. The service launched about a year ago at a Save Mart store in Modesto and a Lucky California store in Dublin and is now available at a total of 20 Save Mart and Lucky stores in California.
