Schnucks delivers more curbside pickup

Regional grocer nearly doubles click-and-collect sites

Schnuck Markets has expanded curbside pickup to 59 stores, almost twice the number of locations that previously offered the service.

Schnucks said Friday that the 29 new pickup sites include stores in the St. Louis and Evansville, Ind., markets and stores in central and northern Illinois and central Missouri, which are the offering click-and-collect service — dubbed Schnucks Curbside Pickup — for the first time. The St. Louis-based grocer provides pickup service through its partnership with Instacart.

“The expansion of Schnucks Curbside Pickup helps to simplify shopping for our customers and provides balance to their busy lifestyles, since they can quickly order groceries from their tablet, smartphone or desktop and have the order delivered directly to their vehicle,” Ryan Cuba, chief business development and transformation officer at Schnucks, said in a statement. “We know that many of our customers are always on the go and this is one more way that Schnucks is working to simply shopping.”

Schnucks launched curbside pickup last November at four stores in Missouri, noting that at the time it was the first traditional grocer to offer the service in the St. Louis area. This past June, the service rolled out to another 26 additional stores, including locations in Missouri, Illinois and Indiana.

Customers ordering items for pickup receive a text message that specifies where to park at the store and gives a phone number to call upon arrival. Groceries are kept in a designated area of the store, with temperature-sensitive items placed in refrigerators, freezers or hot bags. When customers arrive at the store and call the number, store associates then bring their orders out to their cars.

Pickup service, accessed via SchnucksDelivers.com, is available from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Instacart processing fees on pickup orders are waived for Schnucks Delivers Express members and are $1.99 for nonmembers for orders of $35 dollars or more. There’s a $10 minimum purchase for all pickup orders, and orders less than $35 carry a $3.99 processing fee.

Schnucks Rewards members earn points on all Curbside Pickup orders, but the retailer said some promotional offers and digital coupons may not apply due to limitations of the Instacart platform.

Schnucks provides home and office delivery from all of its 112 stores in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Iowa. The retailer launched Schnucks Delivers with Instacart in the St. Louis area in February 2017.
