Schnucks extends reach of curbside pickup, rewards

Click-and-collect service now offered at 30 stores

Schnuck Markets has expanded its online grocery service with more locations for curbside pickup and reward points for home delivery and click-and-collect purchases.

Schnucks said Wednesday that members of the Schnucks Rewards loyalty program can now earn points on Schnucks Delivers orders delivered to a home or business or picked up at a store. The points earned are applied to customer accounts within 24 hours of purchase.

The St. Louis-based supermarket chain launched Schnucks Rewards, including a mobile app, last August and extended the program to all of its stores last month. Members earn 10 rewards points for each dollar spent on qualifying purchases. After collecting 1,000 points ($100 in purchases), shoppers earn $2 off a future purchase. Dollars can be redeemed as they are earned or accumulated to spend in bulk, up to $500. All redemptions must occur in-store.

Meanwhile, Schnucks Delivers Curbside Pickup has launched at 26 additional stores. Schnucks launched pickup service last November at four stores and said it was the first traditional grocer to offer the service in the St. Louis area.

Customers ordering items for pickup receive a text message that indicates where to park at the store and provides a phone number to call upon arrival. Their groceries are kept in a designated area of the store, with temperature-sensitive items placed in refrigerators, freezers or hot bags. When customers arrive at the store and call the provided phone number, a store associate brings their order to their car.

“We know that busy shoppers are looking for ways to maximize their time, and Schnucks Delivers offers customers the convenience of someone else taking the time to do their grocery shopping for them,” Ryan Cuba, chief business development and transformation officer at Schnucks, said in a statement. “With curbside pickup, our customers can get their full grocery order without ever having to leave their vehicle and they can quickly resume their day.”

Curbside pickup, offered through Schnucks’ partnership with Instacart, is available from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Instacart processing fees on pickup orders are waived for Schnucks Delivers Express members and are $1.99 for nonmembers. Through Sept. 5, customers can use the code “4Curbside” to waive the Instacart pickup fee. There is a $10 minimum purchase for all pickup orders.

Besides the four pilot locations — St. Charles, Town & Country, Richmond Heights, Mo., and St. Louis (5055 Arsenal St.) — curbside pickup is offered at Schnucks stores in Cape Girardeau, Arnold, Bridgeton, Chesterfield, Cottleville, Creve Coeur, Dardenne Prairie, Des Peres, Eureka, Fenton, Florissant, Jennings, Kirkwood, Lake Saint Louis, Overland and Webster Groves, Mo., as well as at two more St. Louis stores (Lindell Boulevard and Butler Hill Road) plus supermarkets in Alton, Collinsville, Edwardsville and Swansea, Ill., and in Newburgh and Evansville (three locations), Ind.

Schnucks provides home and office delivery from all of its 117 stores in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Iowa. The retailer launched Schnucks Delivers with Instacart in the St. Louis area in February 2017.
