Direct-to-consumer meal service Sunbasket has joined the Instacart Marketplace, becoming the first meal kit company on the same-day delivery giant’s platform.

San Francisco-based Sunbasket said Monday its roster of meal kits, Fresh & Ready prepared meals and grocery add-ons are now available through its branded online storefront on Instacart’s marketplace, enabling customers to order Sunbasket meal items without a subscription to the service.

Customers can choose from restaurant-quality breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks available on the following week’s menu, as well as from an assortment of pantry items, Sunbasket said. All meals offered via the Instacart storefront start at $11.99 per serving, with the option of  à la carte weekly delivery fulfilled by Sunbasket.

Via Instacart, consumers can now order Sunbasket meal offerings and pantry items without a subscription to the service.

“Consumers are increasingly looking for convenience, and we see prepared meal and grocery delivery as a permanent fixture in the dining landscape,” Sunbasket CEO Don Barnett said in a statement. “Sunbasket is excited to offer more delivery choices of our restaurant-quality, nutritious meals through our partnership with Instacart.”

The extended online reach through Instacart comes after Sunbasket’s expansion in the prepared meals market earlier this year. In January, the company repositioned its brand from a meal kit-only platform to a full-service meal delivery company, including meal kits, ready-to-heat meals and selected grocery items. Sunbasket also has since expanded its menu to offer a range of healthy and organic options, including ready-to-heat Fresh & Ready meals, premium protein add-ons, lunch and snacks.

Founded in 2014, Sunbasket offers subscription meal plans catering to a wide array of tastes and dietary needs, including Chef’s Choice, Paleo, Lean & Clean, Gluten-Free, Vegetarian, Pescatarian, Mediterranean, Diabetes-Friendly, Fresh & Ready, Pre-Prepped and Carb-Conscious offerings.

“We're excited today to bring Sunbasket’s wide range of meal options to the Instacart Marketplace, providing more customers with access to their healthy and delicious meals directly to their doors — no subscription required,” commented Blake Wallace, who leads new retail partnerships at San Francisco-based Instacart. “Whether looking to learn a new recipe or too busy to make it to the store, we’re continuing to find new ways to give families a seamless shopping experience and convenient options for healthy eating.”

Overall, Instacart partners with more than 600 national, regional and local retailers and delivers from almost 55,000 stores in over 5,500 cities in the United States and Canada. The company’s online shopping and delivery service is accessible to more than 85% of U.S. households and 80% of Canadian households.
