CARLISLE, Pa. — Ahold USA on Wednesday said it has promoted Erik Keptner to executive vice president of marketing, a newly created position.

The company, parent of the Stop & Shop, Giant-Landover and Giant-Carlisle chains, said it split the former EVP of marketing and merchandising position into two roles. That title previously had been held by Jeff Martin, who recently left Ahold for "personal reasons," the company said. Ahold is continuing to search for an EVP of merchandising.

Keptner joined Giant-Carlisle in 1998 as a consumer research analyst, and has held a variety of positions since then, including senior VP of advertising and marketing at Giant-Carlisle. Since 2010 he has been senior vice president of marketing and consumer insights for Ahold USA. He reports to Carl Schlicker, chief operating officer of Ahold USA.

“With more than 15 years of experience, Erik will be able to lead our teams as we focus on increasing customer loyalty,” Schlicker said in a statement.
