BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Belle Foods here plans to reduce its full-time workforce and utilize more part-time employees, the company told SN.
In the process, it plans to add 300 part-time positions to its employee base, it said.
"If I didn't move forward with these reductions, even more teammates could be negatively affected," said Bill White, president and chief executive officer.
The 57-store chain — formerly known as Southern Family Markets prior to its sale in early 2012 — did not quantify the number of staff reductions but called the move an effort to get its full-time to part-time ratio in line with industry standards. The company has 2,754 full- and part-time employees; full-time employees who are affected will be offered part-time jobs, White said.
