De Swaan to Resign From Ahold Board

ZAANDAM, Netherlands — Ahold said Monday that Tom de Swaan will resign from the company's supervisory board as of Sept. 30 as a result of his recent appointment as chairman of Zurich Insurance Group.

ZAANDAM, Netherlands — Ahold said Monday that Tom de Swaan will resign from the company's supervisory board as of Sept. 30 as a result of his recent appointment as chairman of Zurich Insurance Group.

"Tom has been a great member of our supervisory board, and the company has benefitted from his insights and expertise during his long career in the financial industry,” said René Dahan, chairman of Ahold's supervisory board. “We fully understand his decision and wish him all the very best in his new duties.”

Following his appointment to the supervisory board of Ahold in 2007, de Swaan served as chairman of the Audit Committee. On Monday Ahold also said that board member Stephanie Shern will succeed de Swaan in his role as chairman of the Audit Committee.

Ahold operates the Stop & Shop, Giant-Landover and Giant-Carlisle chains in the U.S., as well as the Peapod online grocery servcie.
