VIRGINIA BEACH — Farm Fresh Supermarkets here has begun offering a 10% discount on grocery purchases for military personnel on Mondays — a move that coincided with the closure of military commissaries resulting from federal sequestration cuts.
The Department of Defense entered its furlough period earlier this month, with 148 commissaries closing on Mondays through Sept. 30.
Farm Fresh, a division of Supervalu, said this week it would extend a 10% discount on the entire grocery bill for active and veteran military who show a military ID on Mondays. Farm Fresh said it would continue a policy of offering a 10% discount on store-brand items to all military members from Tuesday to Sunday.
