Green Zebra Unveils Plans for Third Site

PORTLAND, Ore. — The former chief executive officer of New Seasons Market here has unveiled plans for her first three health-focused convenience stores.

Lisa Sedlar, who left New Seasons last year to pursue the start-up effort, said Green Zebra Grocery has secured locations in the Kenton, Woodstock and, most recently, Richmond/Mount Tabor neighborhoods of Portland. The first location is slated to open in September and the other two in mid-2014.

As planned, the small-format stores would focus on fresh, local, natural and healthful food as well as some grocery essentials. The stores will also include a butcher counter and a selection of grab-and-go options.

Focusing on what she calls the “20 minute neighborhood,” Sedlar, who is CEO of Green Zebra Grocery, said the stores will “offer eaters the opportunity to shop for all of their needs within a short bike ride or walk from their home.”

Green Zebra Grocery — named after a local tomato variety, according to reports — plans to open several more stores in the Portland area and in other communities that need greater access to healthful food, the company said.
