MONTVALE, N.J. — A&P has informed workers that it intends to close three Pathmark stores in Southern New Jersey, sources told SN Tuesday.
Pathmark stores in Edgewater Park, Camden and Cherry Hill will close on or around Sept. 6.
“They basically told us they weren’t making money in those stores and because of performance, they were going to close them,” Sam Ferraino, president of United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1360, West Berlin, N.J., which represents front-end clerks at all three stores.

Meat, deli and seafood workers at the stores, represented by UFCW Local 152, Mays Landing, N.J., may be able to transfer to other Pathmark stores in the union’s jurisdiction, Brian String, Local 152’s president, told SN.
String said A&P representatives approached the union several months ago to discuss revising their contract to attain cost savings, but those discussions did not proceed.
A&P representatives were not immediately available for comment Tuesday.
