LAKELAND, Fla. — Publix Super Markets here on Friday said it has promoted four executives in corporate purchasing and manufacturing. The promotions will be effective April 1.
• Dave Bornmann was named to senior vice president, corporate purchasing. He began his career at Publix in 1983 as a computer programmer, and currently is vice president of grocery/nonfoods.
• Pete Mowitt was named to succeed Bornmann as vice president of grocery/nonfoods. Mowitt began his career at Publix as a part-time grocery clerk and worked in store management for many years. In 2000, he was promoted to his current role as business development director of grocery.
• Mike Smith was named senior vice president of manufacturing. He began his career at Publix as a rail dock associate and worked in various areas of manufacturing before being promoted in 2005 to his current role as vice president of manufacturing.
• Jeff Stephens was named to succeed Smith as vice president of manufacturing. Stephens began his career at Publix as a rail dock associate and worked in quality control and other areas before being promoted in 2010 to his current position as director of manufacturing operations.

Publix is privately owned and operated by its 157,000 employees, with 2012 sales of $27.5 billion. Currently Publix has 1,070 stores in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee.
