Save-A-Lot Opens in Underserved Atlantic City

ST. LOUIS — Save-A-Lot, a subsidiary of Supervalu, has opened its first store in Atlantic City, N.J.

Supervalu is among the large food retailers that has committed to opening stores in underserved areas, known as food deserts.

A grand opening ceremony for the store was attended by Atlantic City Mayor Lorenzo T. Langford and other local officials, including Executive Director John Palmieri from the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority (CDRA), which helped make the opening of the Save-A-Lot store possible.  “I am elated over the opening of Save-A-Lot, and welcome the opportunity for residents to be able to conveniently shop for groceries,” said Mayor Langford.

“The addition of Save-A-Lot to Atlantic City is a win across the board,” said the CRDA’s Palmieri. “First and foremost, it gives the residents of Atlantic City access to affordable, healthy foods. As the property owners, we’re thrilled to see the land being used to benefit the entire Atlantic City community. We certainly appreciate the investment the company is making in Atlantic City and join with the City in wishing them great success here.”
