Dollar Tree opens three stores in South Florida, and more are on the way

Discount retailer has plans for two more openings

Dollar Tree is expanding in South Florida.

The discount grocer has opened three new stores in Miami, Hialeah, and West Palm Beach. The Miami location is the largest at 14,000 square feet while the Hialeah and West Palm Beach stores are 13,500 and 9,000 square feet, respectively.

There are also plans to open Dollar Trees in Sunny Isles Beach and Lauderhill.

While Dollar Tree store growth will continue the plan is to cut back on the number of Family Dollar locations, which also fall under the Dollar Tree umbrella.

During the Chesapeake, Va.-based retailer’s third quarter earnings call in November, Dollar Tree Chairman and CEO Rick Dreiling announced a comprehensive review of the Family Dollar store network, which currently sits at 8,350 locations, that will involve identifying stores as candidates for closure, re-bannering as Dollar Trees, or relocation.

“Going forward, we need to ensure that the Family Dollar portfolio is well positioned for success and meets the financial and operating objectives of our organization and the expectations of our valued customers and associates,” Dreiling said during the call.
