Stop & Shop has told state authorities in New York that 239 employees would be affected by the closing of a warehouse in Mount Vernon.

The site is a “wareroom” attached to a Stop & Shop store from which parent company Ahold USA operated its Peapod grocery delivery business. It is one of six Peapod warerooms that will close following the opening of a new 300,000-square-foot warehouse, published reports said.

The new Peapod warehouse is expected to support expansion of Internet shopping in the New York metro area. Officials said it will open next month.
