Meijer is putting the finishing touches on two 159,000-square-foot supercenters in Alliance and North Canton, Ohio, which will open on May 14.

The Grand Rapids, Mich.-based retailer will have 55 locations in the state following the pair of store openings.

The supercenters will feature grocery staples, fresh produce, bakery, meat, and deli as well as a floral area, garden center, and home goods. The stores will also come with a pharmacy, health and beauty care, a pet department, electronics, toys, sports equipment, and apparel.

The North Canton location will have a Meijer Express gas station, which will go live on April 18.

“Ohio has always been significant to us, as it was the first state we expanded to outside of Michigan,” said Todd Anderson, vice president of the Ohio Region for Meijer.

The first Meijer store in Ohio opened in 1981, and now there are more than 11,000 employed by the grocer.
