Michael Lockard has joined Weis Markets as chief financial officer, succeeding CFO Scott Frost, who is retiring.

Plans call for Frost to remain as CFO until March 12, when Lockard will take the reins as senior vice president, CFO and treasurer, Weis Markets said yesterday. In the role, Lockard will oversee daily management of the Sunbury, Pa.-based grocer’s accounting, auditing and financial functions and report to Chairman and CEO Jonathan Weis.

Before that, he spent nearly five years at Walmart, including as vice president of information systems global shared services, vice president of finance for North America financial shared services and senior director of finance for U.S. financial shared services. He joined Walmart from shipping giant UPS, where he most recently served as vice president of finance and CFO for UPS Supply Chain Solutions.

Weis Markets noted that Lockard brings more than 25 years of senior-level executive experience in retail, supermarket and supply chain companies, including supervision of strategic planning, finance and accounting, information technology and shared services.

“Michael Lockard is a seasoned financial professional with extensive experience in retail, particularly food retail,” Weis said in a statement. “During his retail career, he has helped drive efficiencies and managed large, multi-discipline financial teams that have been a strong business partner to his respective companies’ merchant supply chain and store teams. We are pleased to welcome him to our company and look forward to working with him.”

Scott has served as CFO of Weis Markets since July 2009. He added the titles of vice president and treasurer later that year and then in January 2011 was promoted to senior vice president, retaining his CFO and treasurer roles. “We are also grateful to Scott Frost, our retiring CFO, and congratulate him on a successful 42-year career with our company,” Weis added. “As CFO, he led our financial unit and developed a capable team that will position us for continued success going forward. We wish Scott all the best in his retirement.”
