Brands Play Key Role in Fuel Program

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — Both national and private brands play a role in Hy-Vee’s new Fuel Saver program.

Shoppers can save up to $2.08 per gallon this week by buying participating products. Selections in this week’s dedicated “Fuel Saver” ad include Hy-Vee Hamburger rolls for $1.29 (a 2-cent fuel savings); Folger’s coffee for $8.99 (5-cent fuel savings); and Hy-Vee’s prepared Chinese Express dinner for four for $19.99 (20-cent fuel savings).

As reported, Hy-Vee and Casey’s General Stores have partnered on a gasoline-discount program tied to certain grocery purchases.

The new Fuel Saver program provides fuel discounts to shoppers who purchase grocery items featured in Hy-Vee’s weekly Fuel Saver ad. The discounts — ranging from two cents to 25 cents per item — are loaded onto the customer’s Fuel Saver card, which can be scanned at the pump at Hy-Vee and Casey’s stores to “roll down” the retail price of gasoline.

Depending on how many items they buy, customers can save $2 or more per gallon on their fuel purchases each week.

Casey’s, based in Ankeny, Iowa, is one of the largest convenience-store chains in the Midwest.
