Kroger, Schnucks embrace one-day coupons

Retailers are building social media traffic by running weekly digital coupons that can be downloaded and/or used for one day only.

Retailers are building social media traffic by running weekly digital coupons that can be downloaded and/or used for one day only.

Kroger, for instance, has launched the “Free Friday Download,” a digital coupon that can be downloaded each Friday for just 24 hours.

Available for download at www.kroger.com/freefridaydownloads and on Twitter (#FreeFridayDownload), the coupon can be automatically loaded to the shopper’s loyalty card. Shoppers have two weeks to redeem the coupon in-store.

Last Friday’s coupon was for a free Yoplait Greek yogurt, 5.3 ounces.

Schnuck Markets, meanwhile, offers Drive Time Specials, coupons that are posted each Friday on the retailer’s Facebook page and Twitter account, and valid the same day between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m.

A recent Drive Time Special was for a $5 meal bundle that included John Soules Foods Chicken Breast Strips (6-ounce package), Schnucks Taco Shells (12-count), one Schnucks Shredded Cheese (6-8-ounce bag) and a 2-liter Coke.
