Herring was named president of Giant-Carlisle in 2009, just as the company was about to acquire Ukrop’s Super Markets in Richmond, Va. Before being named president, he had been EVP of finance and CFO, and was also instrumental in the organization of Ahold Financial Services, Ahold USA's shared financial service center, the company said.

Giant, based in Carlisle, Pa., operates nearly 200 supermarkets under the Giant and Martin’s banners.
