Ted Schnuck has been promoted to vice president of fresh at Midwestern grocer Schnuck Markets.

In the new role, Schnuck — great-grandson of company founder Anna Donovan Schnuck — will lead strategy development and execution for fresh food categories, including meat, seafood, bakery, produce, floral, deli and prepared foods, St. Louis-based Schnucks said Friday. He previously served as a division manager in store operations, overseeing 11 stores in the St. Charles, Mo., and mid-Missouri markets.

With the promotion, Schnuck (left) also now joins the retailer’s Strategy Team, a 10-member executive group that leads the overall direction and execution of the company. A fourth-generation member of the Schnuck family, the son of Terry and Sally Schnuck, he is the first member of this generation to be appointed to the Strategy Team. He reports to Chief Merchant Ryan Cuba.

“As vice president of our fresh areas, we look to Ted to develop the strategies to deliver on our promise to our customers to ‘Provide Best In Fresh Solutions’ by offering a relevant assortment of fresh, quality foods while providing easy, affordable, convenient meal solutions,” Schnucks President and Chief Operating Officer Dave Peacock said in a statement. “Ted’s experience, strategic mindset and leadership capabilities position him to successfully drive our evolution as a leader in fresh foods.”

Schnuck joined Schnuck Markets in September 2015 as program director of replenishment and inventory optimization, subsequently taking on roles as senior director of supply chain and business development before becoming vice president of brand marketing in August 2018. In that post, he played a pivotal role in the launch of the Schnucks Rewards program, the company said. Other accomplishments include implementation of the retailer’s inventory replenishment system while in supply chain, and, as part of the business development team, leading the acquisition and integration of 19 St. Louis-area Shop ‘n Save stores in 2018. He became division manager in store operations in September 2019.

Before coming to Schnuck Markets, Schnuck began his career as a consultant at Bain & Co., then moved to strategy and marketing roles for major brands at Beam Suntory and Procter & Gamble.

Overall, Schnuck Markets operates 112 stores in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin.
