KINGSPORT, Tenn. — Customers of Food City stores in Tennessee and Virginia can participate in free monthly store tours to learn about diabetes and healthy eating.
The tours, led by certified diabetes educators and registered dietitians with Wellmont Diabetes Treatment Centers, will include a pre-shopping classroom session on diabetes management, an aisle-by-aisle tour and an evaluation session.
Dietitians will discuss the importance of various foods and nutrients, the NuVal Nutritional Scoring System and how to eat healthy foods on a budget.
“Healthy eating starts at the grocery store,” Lori Hamilton, Food City’s director of healthy initiatives, said in a press release. “We want to empower customers to take control of their lives by making informed food choices when they shop in our stores. The shopping tours achieve this by letting our customers see firsthand how the food they purchase and consume can impact their lives.”
