Big Y Matriarch D’Amour Dies at Age 90

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Private services were held here for Jeanne D’Amour, matriarch of the family that owns and operates Big Y Foods, who died at her home April 23 at age 90.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Private services were held here for Jeanne D’Amour, matriarch of the family that owns and operates Big Y Foods, who died at her home April 23 at age 90.

Her husband, Big Y co-founder Gerald D’Amour, had died in August, also at age 90.

Jeanne D’Amour worked as a clerk at Big Y from 1949 until she retired in 1992. She is survived by her six children: Joseph, Charles, Denise, Claire, Helen and Marie, along with 10 grandchildren. Her son Charles is currently president and chief operating officer of Big Y.
