C&S Layoffs in Wake of Big Y Defection: Report

C&S Wholesale Grocers is laying off around 250 workers related to the loss of Big Y Supermarkets as a customer, reports said.

KEENE, N.H. — C&S Wholesale Grocers here is laying off around 250 workers related to the loss of Big Y Supermarkets as a customer, reports said. Sources told SN that Big Y, the Springfield, Mass.-based operator of 54 stores in Massachusetts and Connecticut, has switched wholesalers from C&S to Bozzuto’s, Cheshire, Conn. According to a report in the Brattleboro, Vt., Reformer newspaper, most of the job losses at C&S have come from its North Hatfield, Mass., warehouse, with some jobs also lost in Brattleboro.
