“I think John Mackey is right on target. To me, the first step in health care reform is tort reform so that doctors do not perform unnecessary procedures to avoid lawsuits and do not have to carry such expensive malpractice insurance. Step two is high deductibles, as Mackey suggests, which makes insurance what it truly is — insurance against catastrophes. Step three is personal accountability, which Whole Food is accomplishing with the employee “health accounts.” Insurance programs like the government and unions have that cover everything from ‘dollar one’ encourage abuse and misuse.”
