Hannaford Asks Kids to Design Shopping Bag

SCARBOROUGH, Maine — Hannaford has launched its sixth-annual “Design a Reusable Shopping Bag” contest for kids.

Children ages 7-13 are invited to design a bag that will be sold in Hannaford stores in 2014. Entries will be accepted through May 25.

Hannaford has asked kids to draw a picture or come up with a slogan that shows a good way to save energy.

“Maybe it will be a picture of you conserving electricity, water, or gasoline or coming up with a slogan to encourage our customers to save energy and help our planet earth,” Hannaford writes in promotional materials.

Hannaford will select one winner from each of the five states where it operates. The grand-prize winning entry will be chosen as the bag’s main design. Four runners up will also get their designs featured on the bag. All five will get a $100 Hannaford gift card.

Applications are available on hannaford.com/bagcontest. Submissions will be posted at Hannaford stores for public viewing.

The winning designs will be announced in September.
