TOPEKA, Kan. — A Hy-Vee store here marked the American Cancer Society’s “Great American Smokeout” Thursday by giving a free turkey to smokers who pledged to go “cold turkey."
The store teamed with St. Francis Health Center to give customers a voucher for a free frozen turkey for every pack of cigarettes they turned in. More than 200 turkeys were awarded during the two-hour event.
“By the looks of things, a lot of folks will be breathing a little easier on Thanksgiving,” Hy-Vee wrote in a Facebook post.
