New Seasons Market to Add Off-Site Kitchen

PORTLAND, Ore. — New Seasons Market will build a 33,000-square-foot off-site kitchen here to service its 12 stores in the Portland region.

The new Central Kitchen will house hot and refrigerated cooking areas for prepared foods, a bakery and organic bakery, a smokehouse for meats and seafood, and a test kitchen.

Deliveries will be made daily to New Seasons stores, all of which are located less than 30 minutes from the kitchen.

“We have limited production space in our stores, so adding a Central Kitchen will allow us to expand the variety of seasonal and homemade foods that we offer our customers, while improving product consistency in all of our stores,” Pat Brown, New Seasons Market’s chief operating officer, said in a statement.

Construction is set to begin in February 2013, and production will start in September. The kitchen will be built to exceed Food Safety Modernization Act requirements.

New Seasons will continue to have on-site cooking staff at its stores to fine tune offerings and educate customers.
