Big Y Foods has enabled same-day ordering and pickup through its myPicks Online Ordering service.

Through the grocery e-commerce platform, Big Y customers now can place orders online until 10 a.m. and have their items ready for pickup in the afternoon, the Springfield, Mass.-based grocer said. Currently, 11 supermarkets now offer the free, contactless myPicks click-and-collect service, including the retailer’s Chicopee, East Longmeadow, Longmeadow, Ludlow, South Hadley, Cooley St. Springfield, Big Y at Fresh Acres, Westfield, Westfield Shops, West Springfield and Wilbraham locations.

“I am particularly excited about the implementation of same-day order and pickup,” Christian D’Amour, director of e-commerce at Big Y Foods, said in a statement. “As the holidays are near and our schedules become busier, having the added flexibility to put your order in and pick up on the same day will help save time and alleviate stress. I’m grateful to our team for bringing the best e-commerce experience to our customers.”

The myPicks online grocery service made its debut in April at the Big Y World Class Market store in Chicopee and then in July was expanded to another nine supermarkets in the greater Springfield area. The program is powered by a 12,000-square-foot, automated micro-fulfillment center (MFC) built by partner Takeoff Technologies that houses 20,000 of the retailer’s top-selling products and can fill online orders for more than 7,000 customers a week.

To use myPicks, Big Y customers set up a digital account and then click on the “Shop Online” tab under the “Shop” menu on the grocer’s website and select “Big Y myPicks.” Trained Big Y e-commerce associates select fresh food items to supplement the automated portion of each order. Grocery orders are held in temperature-controlled totes inside secure lockers until picked up.

Overall, Big Y Foods operates 85 stores in Massachusetts and Connecticut, including 71 Big Y World Class Market supermarkets, one Fresh Acres Market grocery store, one Table & Vine Fine Wines & Liquors store, and 12 Big Y Express fuel and convenience locations.
