PMA Remembers Former President Bob Carey

NEWARK, Del. — The Produce Marketing Association is honoring former president Bob Carey with an online tribute page following his passing last week.

Carey took the reins at PMA in 1958, when the organization was near bankrupt and had fewer than 100 members, and engineered its success until retiring in 1996.

PMA encourages members to share their memories of Carey on the tribute page.

“Bob’s real genius was getting the best out of everyone around him — members and staff — and that’s become a core part of PMA’s culture,” Bryan Silbermann, PMA’s CEO, said in a statement.

“Bob's leadership was the lynchpin for PMA's growth and success, but it was his engaging personality, compassion, humor and empathy that endeared him to all those around him,” he added.

Services for Carey will be held Dec. 3 in Bridgeville, Del.
