PITTSBURGH — Giant Eagle’s Valu King and Delhaize’s Bottom Dollar Food will be combating co-tenants in a shopping center here.

Giant Eagle said it would expand its Valu King discount to Pittsburgh, where Bottom Dollar earlier this year began its expansion. The two discount retailers are expected to be neighbors in the Ross Towne Center, a shopping plaza here.

Giant Eagle, based here, currently operates six discount stores in Ohio and one in Erie, Pa. Like Bottom Dollar, it is a discount store with a smaller selection and lower prices than full-service supermarkets. The Ross Towne Center location would be Valu King’s first store in the greater Pittsburgh area.
