Giant Eagle Extends ‘Price Lock’ Discounts

PITTSBURGH — Giant Eagle here said it is launching a new round of extended price discounts, citing positive consumer reaction to its first such “Low Price Lock” program announced in October.

Giant Eagle said the program provides a degree of predictability in family budgets, as the prices of the designated items will remain constant, even if product and commodity costs increase. Giant Eagle described it as a “multi-million dollar” investment in prices for national and private brand items throughout the store.

“Due to the positive customer response to our Low Price Lock during the holiday season, we are freezing prices all winter long,” Rob Borella, Giant Eagle’s senior director of corporate communications, said in a statement. “Not only is Giant Eagle extending price locks on many of the most popular items from October’s campaign, but also we have added hundreds of new products often on shoppers’ lists.”

Wegmans, Rochester, N.Y., and Weis Markets, Sunbury, Pa., announced similar programs in recent weeks.
