TEWKSBURY, Mass. — Demoulas Market Basket is seeking to open its first Market Basket store in the state of Maine, published reports said.

According to the Journal Tribune newspaper, an engineer contracted by Market Basket has submitted an application to redevelop a former Lowe’s home improvement site at the Biddeford Crossing shopping center in Biddeford, Maine. The newspaper also said Demoulas was in negotiations with center owner New England Development.

The site totals 107,800 square feet.

Biddeford is located in Southern Maine. Existing food retailers there include Shaw’s Supermarkets, Hannaford and Wal-Mart Supercenter. A Market Basket spokesman was not immediately available for comment.
