WASHINGTON — Save-A-Lot’s Fuel Your Family Road Trip made a stop here Thursday, when Sam Kass, assistant chef at the White House, joined officials of the discounter to make a donation to area hunger-relief programs.

WASHINGTON — Save-A-Lot’s Fuel Your Family Road Trip made a stop here recently, when Sam Kass, assistant chef at the White House, joined officials of the discounter to make a donation to area hunger-relief programs.

Save-A-Lot, a Supervalu banner based in St. Louis, donated $2,500 and 55,000 school supplies to the Capital Area Food Bank, providing 7,500 meals for area families. The school supplies will benefit children participating in the Food Bank’s Kids Café and Weekend Bag programs.

Save-A-Lot Opens in Underserved Atlantic City

The Feed Your Family Road Trip includes a series of events promoting healthy and affordable eating. The trip made stops in 18 cities during a 2,000-mile journey between July 27 and Aug. 25, making donations of $33,500.
