NEEDHAM, Mass. — Services were held here Tuesday for Daniel “Bud” Roche, who founded the Roche Bros. chain with his brother Patrick in 1952.

Daniel Roche, who died Sept. 4, was 85 and a retired chairman of the Wellesley Hills, Mass.-based, family-owned chain, which operates 18 stores today. His brother Patrick died a year ago.

Daniel Roche was a U.S. Marine veteran who attended meat-cutting school on the G.I. Bill. He founded Roche Bros. in Roslindale, Mass., in 1952 with a loan from their parents. He retired from Roche Bros. in 1998.
