7-Eleven adds low-cal breakfast sandwich

7-Eleven has begun selling an egg white breakfast sandwich that contains just 180 calories.

Priced at $1.99, the sandwich consists of egg whites, lean Canadian bacon and cheddar cheese on a whole wheat English muffin. At select stores, customers can request to have the sandwich toasted, or the sandwich can be microwaved in store or reheated at home.

“Our primary task was to create a great-tasting breakfast sandwich for people looking for a better-for-you alternative,” Kelly Buckley, VP of fresh food innovation, said in a press release.

“Eating away from home adds extra challenges for those looking for healthier food options. We wanted to remove that dilemma for the morning crowd who prefers a hot breakfast that is low-calorie, low-fat and high-protein,” she added.

Buckley noted 7-Eleven has been updating its prepared food offerings with healthier items like fresh-cut fruit, salads, yogurt parfaits and low-calorie sandwiches.
