CHARLOTTE — Harris Teeter donated 26,500 pounds of peaches as part of the “Peaches with a Purpose” program created by South Carolina peach grower Titan Farms.
For four weeks in July and August, Harris Teeter donated a percentage of the peaches sold at 150 stores in North and South Carolina. The peaches went to Second Harvest Food Banks here and in Winston-Salem, N.C.
“We are excited to be the first retailer to participate in Peaches with a Purpose,” Catherine Becker, communication manager for Harris Teeter, said in a press release. “Fresh produce is scarce in food banks across the country, and we are happy to be able to contribute nutritious items to those in need.”
Editor's Note: This article was updated on Aug. 28 to reflect the revised donation amount of 26,500 pounds of peaches. Harris Teeter's initial estimate was 28,725 pounds.
