CHANDLER, Ariz. — Bashas' here said it opened its newest prototype supermarket Wednesday at a remodeled unit in Tempe, Ariz. — the chain's first major remodeling effort since mid-2009.

The 45,000-square-foot store, which was closed for remodeling in June, features local produce; organic and bulk foods; a gourmet deli with New York-style pizza, specialty sandwiches and made-to-order salads; an expanded bakery with Peet's Coffee and other beverages; a cafe with flat screen TVs and free Wi-Fi; and covered parking.

Consumers in the surrounding area are invited to attend a free breakfast at the store on Saturday, courtesy of Hickman's Family Farms and Peet's Coffee, during which they can enter to win a Bashas' gift card.
