GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Forty percent of Meijer shoppers plan to complete back-to-school shopping before the start of the school year, show results of a poll conducted by the retailer.
The median spend will be between $101 and $150 per student, and $201 to $250 total, with the vast majority (90%) anticipating spending the same or more as last year on e-readers, apparel, art supplies and other products.
Licensed backpacks and lunch kits featuring Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Spiderman, Hello Kitty and Iron Man are emerging as the top sellers for younger kids, while geometric shapes in chevrons, stripes and bright colors are appealing to older children, Meijer said.
