PENN TRAFFIC HIRES FORMER NASH FINCH CFO DIMOND
st week it has named Robert B. Dimond executive vice president and chief financial officer. Dimond, 43, succeeds William B. Murphy, who has served as interim CFO at Penn Traffic since mid-2003. The company said Murphy will remain with the chain for an unspecified period "to facilitate the transition and assist with the restructuring process." Dimond was executive vice president, CFO and treasurer for Nash Finch, Minneapolis, from 2000 until November 2004. He was group vice president and CFO for the western region of Kroger in 1999 and 2000 and, before that, was vice president and controller for Smith's Food & Drug Centers, Salt Lake City, from 1989 to 1998, when the company was acquired by Kroger. At Penn Traffic, Dimond will oversee accounting, tax, financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting, strategic planning and analysis, and mergers and acquisitions. His appointment is subject to approval of the bankruptcy court.
SUPERVALU TAPS H-E-B VETERAN FOR RETAIL DIVISION
MINNEAPOLIS -- Supervalu here last week said it has named Roger Davidson corporate senior vice president and chief operating officer, Retail Food Cos. In this newly created position, he will align operations and resources across Supervalu's retail banners. Davidson will report to John Hooley, corporate executive vice president, and president, Retail Food Cos. Davidson most recently was senior vice president, grocery procurement, merchandising and store brands, H.E. Butt Grocery, San Antonio, where he spent more than 30 years. He also led global sourcing for Ahold USA from 2000 to 2003.
SOBEYS ELEVATES HYNES TO DEVELOPMENT POST
STELLARTON, Nova Scotia -- Sobeys here last week said it named Glenn Hynes executive vice president and chief development officer, and tapped Bruce Terry to succeed him as executive vice president and chief financial officer. Hynes, who had been CFO since 2001, will lead the company's corporate development and secretarial functions, including real-estate strategy, capital planning and development. Terry most recently worked in the financial services industry and previously had experience in the consumer packaged goods, drug retailing, and oil and gas industries.
LOBINSKY TO RETIRE AT PUBLIX; TWO SENIOR VPS NAMED
LAKELAND, Fla. -- Jim Lobinsky, the senior vice president of product business development at Publix Super Markets and a 49-year employee of the company here, will retire June 30, the company said. With Lobinsky's retirement, Publix said it would restructure its supply chain management into two divisions, and named new senior vice presidents to lead each division, effective July 1. Scott Charlton will be promoted to senior vice president of manufacturing and distribution. Charlton, who joined Publix in 1980 as a chemist in a bakery plant, is currently vice president of manufacturing. Todd Jones has been promoted to senior vice president of product business development. Jones joined Publix in 1980 as a service clerk and is currently vice president of the Jacksonville division. Lobinsky began his career at Publix in 1956 as a service clerk and served various positions in supply chain management and purchasing. He has held his current position since 1997.
TECHNOLOGY CONSULTING FIRM NAMES MARTINDALE CEO
PHOENIX -- Ken Martindale, a former Smith's Food & Drug and Fred Meyer executive, was named president and chief executive officer of the sourcing technology and consulting group Intesource here. Martindale replaces Steve Whiteman, who will remain on Intesource's board of directors. Martindale worked for 24 years in the grocery industry, including terms as executive vice president of procurement and purchasing at Fred Meyer and senior vice president of procurement at Smith's. Martindale also served on the board of directors of Topco & Associates.
