MONTEREY, Calif. — More than 16,000 pounds of fresh produce from displays at the Produce Marketing Association Foodservice Convention & Expo here last weekend have been donated to The Food Bank for Monterey County.
Twelve food-bank volunteers harvested the fruits and vegetables from more than 160 exhibitors and ended up with 16,400 pounds of product.
PMA exhibitors appreciate the opportunity to give back in this small way to the Monterey County community that makes us feel so welcome each year,” said Kim St. George, senior director of marketing for Taylor Farms, Salinas, Calif., and chairperson for the PMA Exhibitor Advisory Committee. “We are in the business of promoting healthy eating, so this is a natural fit for us."
