SUNBURY, Pa. — Weis Markets on Monday said it has promoted Kurt Schertle to executive vice president.
He had been Weis’ senior vice president of sales and merchandising since 2009.
“Kurt has played a key role in our company’s sales building initiatives and growth program,” David J. Hepfinger, Weis Markets’ president and chief executive officer, said in a statement. “As we plan for a future of continued growth and increased market share, Kurt will be taking on responsibilities in key areas that will help us increase our overall efficiencies and improve our operating performance. This promotion is part of our executive succession management planning and will help strengthen our company as we continue to grow our business.”
In his new position, Schertle will continue to oversee all aspects of the company’s marketing, merchandising, procurement and advertising for its Center Store, perishables and pharmacy departments. He will now oversee the company’s supply chain, including its distribution and transportation teams.
Schertle has more than 20 years of food retailing experience, mostly with Supervalu where he last worked as a senior vice president for marketing and merchandising.
