ISSAQUAH, Wash. — Discount and membership stores saw comparable-store sales continue to slide in June.

Costco Wholesale Corp., Issaquah, Wash., experienced the least slippage, with comps down 5% overall and down 6% in the U.S.; Target Corp., Minneapolis, saw comps decline 6.2% for the month; and BJ's Wholesale Club, Natick, Mass., said comps fell 7.5%, including a negative impact from lower gas revenues of 10.2%.

Excluding the deflation in gasoline, Costco said comps for June were down 1% in the U.S., and BJ's said comps jumped 2.7%. BJ's also said unseasonably cool and wet weather in the Northeast reduced comps by 1% to 2%.
