SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — Price Chopper here has agreed to buy two P&C supermarkets from Penn Traffic Co., Syracuse, N.Y., both companies said. Terms were not disclosed.
One of the locations, in Oswego, N.Y., will replace an existing Price Chopper — the new store is 66,000 square feet, vs. 50,000 for the current store — while the other, a 48,000-square-foot store in Lebanon, N.H., will mark the chain’s third location in that state.
Price Chopper said it plans to spend $2.7 million renovating the Oswego location, and will reopen it in the spring. It will spend $1.7 million renovating the Lebanon location, which will reopen “within a couple of weeks of taking possession” of the store, probably in early January, according to Mona Golub, a spokeswoman for Price Chopper.
Separately, Price Chopper is planning a “grand reopening” today for a store in South Burlington, Vt., that it acquired earlier this year from C&S Wholesale Grocers, Keene, N.H.
