SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — Stater Bros. Super Rx Pharmacy announced Monday it would offer a free 30-day supply of the breast cancer drug Tamoxifen in association with National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.

“At some point in their lives almost everyone has been affected by cancer,” said Jack H. Brown, Stater Bros.' chairman and chief executive officer, in prepared statement. “Stater Bros. Supermarkets believes in doing the right thing for the right reason, and we are so proud to be able to assist in the fight against cancer by offering this medication free of charge to those brave women battling this disease.”

Tamoxifen decreases the chance of breast cancer coming back in women who have already received treatment and also helps to prevent breast cancer in women with a high risk of developing breast cancer. To participate in the program, customers must have a valid doctor’s prescription. No membership or other commitment will be required to obtain the 30-day supply.

The retailer will also raise funds to help fight all forms of cancer by presenting the 3rd Annual Believe Walk, which will take place on Sunday, Oct. 3, in Redlands, Calif.
