THUNDER BAY, Ontario — Workers at Loblaw Cos.' Real Canadian Superstore here have voted to authorize a strike, according to United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1000A, which represents the workers.
About 300 workers at the store, subject to an individual agreement with Loblaw, have been working without a contract since March 2009 and have been in legal position to strike since last month, Local 1000A said.
In a statement, the union said Loblaw was proposing a “lengthy contract with several concessions and negligible increases that are significantly below the cost of inflation.”
The same union is currently negotiating along with two other UFCW locals on a new contract for Loblaw stores throughout Ontario.
