Lowes Spotlights Local Foods

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Lowes Foods is gearing up for two local food events.

On Saturday, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m, it will host a “Tastes from Around the State” sampling event at its store on New Garden Road in Greensboro. About one dozen vendors will participate, including Southern Taste, Homeland Creamery, James Foods and Sarah’s Salsa.

Additionally, on May 16 at 8 p.m., the retailer will host a local foods Twitter party during which it will talk about its local farmers and local food assortment. Shoppers can join the party by using the hashtag #LocallyGrown.

Local foods are a growing part of Lowes Foods. The company is committed to the “NC 10%” campaign, an initiative to encourage North Carolinians — consumers, organizations, agencies and businesses — to spend 10% of their food budget on locally grown and produced foods. From May through August, Lowes sources over 20% of produce from farmers within the state.
